Rule list

The rule list is the main autorules screen. It shows which rules are running, in which mode, when they last ran and whether there were errors. From here you enable rules, switch them to live, delete them and open their log.

Where: the Meta / TikTok → Autorules menu. Under the title is the caption “Rules that pause, enable and change budgets of Meta campaigns, ad sets and ads by spend and tracker revenue.”

Screen header

Element

What it does

“Rules: N”

How many rules match the current filters

“Actions” with a counter

Appears when rules are selected and opens bulk actions. On a phone, a three-dot icon is shown instead of the label

“From template”

A list of eight templates with descriptions. Selecting a template opens the builder already filled in from the template

“Create rule”

Opens an empty builder

A buyer has no create buttons, toggles or bulk actions: instead, they see the hint “You can view rules and their logs, but changing them is not available for your role.”

Columns

Column

What it shows

Checkbox

Selecting rules for bulk actions

⋮

Row menu: open, log, enable, switch to the other mode, delete

“Name”

The name link opens the rule in the builder; the description is below it. An orange icon next to the name means configuration warnings; hover over it to see them, for example “No minimum volume threshold” or “Budget action without an ad account budget cap”

“Status”

A toggle and the label “Enabled” or “Paused”. Deleted rules and rules you are not allowed to change show only a tag

“Mode”

Dry-run / Live switch. The Live option is inactive if your role does not have the live permission

“Priority”

A number from 1 to 100. Tooltip: “When rules conflict on one object, the higher priority wins”

“Level”

Campaign, ad set or ad

“Ad accounts”

The ad account name if there is only one, or “Ad accounts: N” — the full list is in the tooltip

“Last run”

Time of the last run (a link to the log) and a tag with the result across all of the rule's ad accounts

“Errors”

The number of errors in the last run — a link to the log. A dash means no errors

“Team”

Platform admin only

“Owner”

The user on whose behalf the rule works: avatar, name and email

“Last run”: how to read it

The time is shown in your time zone. The tag below it is the worst result among all of the rule's ad accounts in this run:

Tag

What it means

“Completed”

All ad accounts were checked without errors

“Completed” with a warning icon

The run went through, but some live actions did not reach Facebook (“Skipped: no profile can make changes”, “Skipped: no permission”), or live is blocked for the ad account because attribution is not set up

“Running”

Some ad accounts are still being processed

“Skipped: stale data”

The data of at least one ad account is older than allowed — the rule did not make decisions

“Skipped”

The run did not take place for another reason, for example “Ad account is not available to the rule owner” or “Autorules are not on the team plan”

“Failed”

The run failed for at least one ad account

“Has not run yet”

The rule has never run: it is disabled or its scheduled time has not come yet

“Status unknown”

The result could not be loaded. Refresh the list or open the rule log

Hover over the tag — the tooltip shows details: “Ad accounts in the run: N”, “Applied: N, simulated: N”, how many ad accounts failed or were skipped because of stale data, unsent actions and warnings. If the rule has many ad accounts, the tooltip may start with the line “Not all ad accounts are counted…”.

The “Errors” column counts execution errors on objects (for example, a Facebook API rejection or a token error) and ad accounts whose run failed. The tooltip breaks the number down: “Execution errors on objects: N”, “Failed runs: N of M”. Actions skipped because there is no profile that can make changes or no permission are not counted as errors — they are shown with a warning icon in “Last run”.

Filters and search

Filter

Values

“Search by name”

Part of the rule name

“Level”

Campaign, ad set, ad

“Mode”

Dry-run, Live

“Activity”

“Enabled”, “Paused”

Deleted

“Not deleted” (default), “Deleted only”, “Including deleted”

“Ad account”

Rules that include the selected ad account

“Owner”

Rules of a specific team member. Available to the team owner, team lead, tech specialist and admin

“Team”

Platform admin only. Without a selection, rules of all teams are shown

  • “Reset” returns the filters to their defaults, “Refresh” reloads the list.

  • Filters, sorting and page size (10, 25, 50 or 100 rows) are remembered in your browser.

  • On a phone, the filters are hidden in a collapsible panel above the table.

Tip. Before creating a new rule for an ad account, filter the list by that ad account: you will immediately see which rules already work on its objects and with what priority.

Sorting and rule order

By default, the list is sorted in execution order: higher priority first; with equal priority — the older rule. This is exactly the order in which rules resolve conflicts on the same objects. You can sort the list by the “Name”, “Priority” and “Last run” columns by clicking the header.

Quick toggles

You can enable a rule and switch its mode right in the row, without opening the builder.

What you do

What happens

Turn the rule off with the “Status” toggle

Immediately, without confirmation. Message “Rule paused”. Your campaigns are not paused — only the rule stops

Enable a rule in Dry-run mode

Immediately. Message “Rule enabled”

Enable a rule in Live mode

Confirmation “Enable a live rule?”: “The rule “…” will start changing statuses and budgets in Facebook.”

Switch the mode to Live

Confirmation “Switch to live?”. If the rule is paused, the text warns that it will start changing statuses and budgets once enabled

Switch the mode to Dry-run

Immediately. Message “Rule switched to dry-run”

  • You can always stop a rule — turn it off or return it to dry-run — even if its settings are outdated or some ad accounts have become unavailable.

  • Enabling and switching to live are stricter. If some of the rule's ad accounts are unavailable to you or its owner, you will see “Some ad accounts of the rule are not available to you, so it cannot be enabled or switched to live.” If the rule settings no longer pass validation — “The rule configuration no longer passes validation. Open the rule, fix it and save.”

  • If someone else changed the rule in the meantime, the list will report “The rule was changed while the list was open. The row has been refreshed: check its state and try again.” This way you never enable a version of a rule you have not seen.

  • Only a role with the live permission can switch the mode to Live, even for a paused rule.

Row menu

The ⋮ button in the second column opens the menu. The set of items depends on the rule state and your role:

  • “Edit” — open the rule in the builder. If you are not allowed to change the rule, there is a “View” item instead: the rule opens read-only.

  • “Log” — runs, decisions and action rollback.

  • “Enable” / “Pause”.

  • “Switch to live” / “Switch to dry-run”.

  • “Delete”.

Bulk actions

  1. Select the rules you need with the checkboxes. The checkbox in the header selects all rows on the page.

  2. Click “Actions” in the header and choose: “Enable”, “Pause”, “Switch to live”, “Switch to dry-run” or “Delete”.

  3. Deleting, switching to live and enabling live rules require confirmation. The text states how many rules the action will actually affect. For example, “Rules to switch to live: 3, enabled among them: 2. Enabled rules will start changing statuses and budgets in Facebook right away, the rest once enabled.” Rules that are already live are not counted.

If everything succeeds, you will see the message “Done” — “Rules changed: N”. If not, the “Bulk action result” window opens: “Done: N, failed: N, not sent: N.” — with the reason for each rule:

Reason

What it means

“Not found”

The rule was deleted or became unavailable to you

“No access”

Your role is not allowed this action, or some of the rule's ad accounts are unavailable

“Conflict: the rule is deleted or was changed at the same time”

Someone changed the rule at the same time as you

“Invalid configuration”

The rule settings do not pass validation — open the rule and save it again

“Deleted rule: not changed”

Bulk actions skip deleted rules

After a bulk action, only the rules that could not be changed stay selected — convenient for reviewing and retrying them.

Example. On Friday evening you decide not to take risks over the weekend and to turn off all scaling rules. Filter the list by searching for “scale”, select all rows and choose “Actions” → “Switch to dry-run”. The rules will keep calculating and writing to the log what they would have done, but will not change budgets. On Monday, switch them back to live the same way.

Deletion

  • Deletion is soft: the rule is paused and moved to deleted, and its log is kept. Confirmation: “The rule “…” will be paused and moved to deleted. Its log is kept.”

  • Deleted rules are hidden by default. To see them, select “Deleted only” or “Including deleted” in the filter. A deleted rule has the “Deleted” tag in the “Status” column.

  • A deleted rule cannot be changed or enabled again — you can only view its settings and log. If you need the rule again, create a new one.

  • The name of a deleted rule is released: a new rule can have the same name. Among the team's active rules, names are unique.

  • Rules can be deleted by the team owner, team lead and tech specialist.

Priority and execution order

If several rules in one run want to do something with the same object, priority decides:

  • the rule with the higher priority wins (from 1 to 100, 50 by default);

  • with equal priority, the older rule wins;

  • a pause always beats enabling and a budget increase — regardless of priority.

Example. The same ad sets are covered by “Stop-loss” with priority 50 and “Scale” with priority 80. In one run, the stop-loss wants to pause an ad set, and the scale rule wants to raise its budget. The pause wins, even though the scale rule has a higher priority. In the log, the scale action will have the outcome “Skipped: conflict with another rule” and a link to the winning rule.

Priority is changed in the builder at the “Name and ad accounts” step. More on conflicts in the article “Schedule, guards and priorities”.

Going to the log and the builder

Where to

How to get there from the list

Rule builder

Click the name, or “Edit” / “View” in the row menu

Rule log

Click the time in “Last run”, the number in “Errors”, or the “Log” item in the row menu

The builder opens read-only if:

  • you have the buyer role — “View only: your role cannot change Meta rules.”;

  • the rule is deleted — “The rule is deleted and cannot be changed. Deleted rules are kept with their log.”;

  • the rule is enabled in live mode and your role does not have the live permission — “The rule is live and enabled: changing it requires the live permission.”

Common situations

Situation

What to check

The rule is enabled, but “Last run” shows “Has not run yet”

The scheduled time has not come yet, or it is now outside the rule's activity windows. The schedule is calculated in the ad account time zone

The rule is live but changes nothing, and the “Completed” tag has a warning icon

Hover over the tag. Most likely, the autorules permission is not enabled on the ad account's profile, or the ad account is connected only via the browser extension. See “Preparation”

Constantly “Skipped: stale data”

The profile's spend sync is lagging or failing. Details are in the log, the “Data” column

The mode cannot be switched to Live

Your role does not have the live permission, or some of the rule's ad accounts are unavailable to you or to the rule owner

A buyer does not see a rule that works on their ad account

A buyer sees only rules where they are the owner. The team lead's rules on the buyer's ad accounts are not visible to them
